Saisonrückblick 2023/2024

In the 2023-2024 season, Volley Oerlikon Damen 1 had a lot of successes – which
unfortunately came with a final sting of loss. The club’s goal was to move up to the 2 nd
league, so from the beginning of the season they set out to do so. While the team roster
remained mostly the same, a couple of players took maternity pauses this season,
including middle blocker Aina Cordero and opposite Janine Bosshard (congrats to each
on their beautiful new additions!). To fill the gap at the net the club welcomed Nicole
Korner (middle) and Mallory Britton (middle, previously outside), and were also thrilled
to secure a new trainer, Ivan Miljković, who, after decades of playing at the highest
level, can finally call himself “Coach” – though he still prefers “Ivan”.

The team started off the season very strong, with captain Cansu Cinar (setter),
supported by Angelika Hartung (setter), running the offense, and outsides Kaoru Uda,
Tanja Sretovic, Xenia Heid, Ola Garal and Sabrina Mühlemann on the attack. At the
other pin was Nina Heinrich playing opposite. Completing the defense were middles
Marianne Müller and Karin Serban, whose season unfortunately ended early due to
injury. With this group of ladies, the club was ranked at the top of the list until two hard-
fought losses in the new year pushed the team to second place. Even so, the club still
had a chance to move up to 2 nd league – but were not able to complete the Aufstieg with
a loss to ZuZu Damen 2 in the final barrage match. A huge thanks to the club members
who supported us during these games, especially to the practice players Diana Peláez
who enthusiastically supported us from the bench and Veronica Nooijen for suiting up to
play opposite in the final game.

Next year, the club is still on the road to the 2 nd league. We’ll say goodbye to Marianne
and Karin, who will be stepping away - thanks to both for your valuable contributions to
the team. Now, we look ahead. We’ll require more focus, high-intensity trainings, and
the addition of some new talent to help realize our goal. We’re looking forward to the
fresh start. Allez Oerlikon!
